How this page was created
When I first started SmallBall, I lurked in the forums while I
trained to see what advice the
oldtimers could give me. I found I was constantly going to reread the
better posts so I started copying and pasting the stuff into
Microsoft Word that made sense to me. After a while I had a ton of
information and very little organization so I grouped the information in the
following way::
Posts from the Commissioner
General Game Questions
General Training Tips
12 Angry Men Interview
Pitching Tips
Batting Tips
Running Tips
Fielding Tips

I really never planned to post this stuff but it was pretty much in the format that you see here and thought rookies might find it useful. Keep in mind that most of this stuff is just someone's opinion and some posts even contradict one another. So other than the commissioner's posts you should use this page as a guide to better training not as the SmallBall Bible. Also keep in mind that SmallBall is constantly changing so as time goes on some of this info will become dated. I will try to keep up with changes but believe it or not I do have a life outside of SmallBall.
I would like to thank all the posters who have helped me out during my initiation to SmallBall. I would especially like to thank ArchDruid, lachi, Spruce Grove Chaos, 12 Angry Men, Biffman, Rye's Crew, Tight Wad's and the Commish since I have relied mostly on their advice. If anyone would like me to remove one of the postings below you can contact me at jebei@hotmail.com and I will do so.

Re:
whats up with training commish
You are very observant. here's what’s happening: when you train your players
they accumulate “training signals” with each action. So if
they run, hit, catch, throw, its all stored in a “cache” and it waits awhile
before it sends it all to the SmallBall servers. Well it used to be about 30
seconds before the trainer would send the pending training
signals, but now that we have more than 11,000 teams, the servers are getting
busy… so we increased the time from 30 seconds to 3 mins. This actually
does not effect your training or your team. You just see the
sparkles less (the star animtions.) We need to make this time between training
signals dynamic – so it will scale with the workload of the servers. Once
that’s done, we will balance the star animation to happen more frequently.
But again, this doesn’t mean that your team is getting less training.
Understand? Thanks BTW, you helped me realize what some
other people were saying….

Re: commissioner please help
At
the moment, the only way to get TP is time. When your trainer is closed TP
replenishes. Up until this morning it would take 24 hours to get a whole pie of
TP... but now its every 12 hours. ArchDruid is correct - we removed all tp
bonus stuff because it only helped those who didn't need it. (Like
Bush's tax plan) Lachi's problem of losing skill could be a problem
(thanks Lachi!!!!) we will look into it more...

All about Stars ** * * *
The Star Ratings are a simplified skills ranking system that allows you to
roughly judge your team's collective skills compared to other teams. This rating
only judges the skills of the team, not how intelligently the team has been
trained or managed. Thus, two teams may have identical Star Ratings, one team
may consistently beat the other -- the better team's players may be assigned to
field positions that better match their abilities, or they may have a smarter
batting line-up. We calculate your star rating based on your 9 man roster
- and don't consider your players on thee bench. this system is not a
perfect way to predict the out come of a game. The reason a 5* team can beat a
7* team is because the person who has the 5* team has maximized the skills of
his players by positioning them better. So its not how much you got, but where
you put it :) Here is an example: your pitcher will probably use all his
TP pitching. So over time, his running and batting skill go down. But he's the
pitcher and you don't care about that. You rather spend almost all his TP on
pitching. But that will lower your star rating. What else can lower it?
System Messages?
Anyone know what the
"System Messages" text box is on the trainer? Maybe someone
already asked this before but I havent read the boards in a couple days.
Just seems to me to be a bunch of team names with + and - next to their name.
--rYe - Ryes Crew (RYC) 7258
>
Hey rYe! the system messages window is a test. The + - show teams
that are starting and ending their training sessions. Eventually
(hopefully soon) this window will allow you to message your opponents during a
LIVE game. Note: you can move and resize this window. Or close it by
cliking the rectangle located next to the sound on/off button.

Commish - Hitting & Pitching
Attributes
Are all teams created equal in regard to hitting and pitching potential? In
other words, do some teams have higher max stats due to the luck of the draw or
do all teams have the same potential to be great? The reason I ask is that some
teams seem to have about 6 good HR hitters (see the Spruce Grove Chaos or the
Austin Cardinals) but the best I seem to be able to get is 3. I feel I train my
hitting quite a bit but none of my other guys seem to add any power no matter
how much I train at hitting. Does anyone know the answer?

Re: Commish - Hitting & Pitching Attributes
Each player is different. What makes them good or bad is how well you know them,
what you spend their TP on, what postition you make them play, (and where they
are in the line up) When a team is born, they are randomly generated -
there is a slight chance that one team might have an advantage over another.
But, this is only because they way they came out, just happened to be good for
the owners training style, and way of thinking. Know what I mean? The best
thing to do is focus on one team. Train them so their skill mature then do some
experiments - switch them around and see how they do. You need to get a feel for
them and that takes a little time. I'm just getting to know my new team
(#16208) They lost every game they ever played (ever!!) but soon they will be a
force to reckon with! :)
Commissioner of SmallBall
Commish.. can you answer this please?
Maybe you've answered it before, but with all the discussion going on, I've
never seen it. Do you have an estimate of when the Deluxe Trainer will come out?

Commish - How are dead teams handled in ProLeague?
If you ignore your team for the whole season, you are removed from the
proleague. But I have to check to be sure this is still the case.
Commissioner of SmallBall
If you challenge a team your team will use TP because they will train during
the game. The only way to "burn" tp is: when you train your team, when
you play them against another, or when you turn passive training on. This means
you are always in control of how your TP is spent. Perhaps we should make
it that challenging another team will NOT burn TP if passive training if
off...what do you think?
Commissioner of SmallBall
Current TP Rules
Keep in mind:
If TP is burned its because your players got some training. The only thing
that uses TP is training.

How to get around the roster bug....
Yes, there is still a bug with roster, color, and name changes. The fix
is coming soon but here is how you can avoid this problem (its easy).
Make your roster changes: press OK and wait for about 2-4 minutes. This bug
makes it so it takes several minutes for your changes to "take."
Feel free to make any amount of roster changes... but just wait a few
minutes after you do it. I.e: don't close the trainer immeadiatly after
making roster changes. My advice, make your roster change first, then
train your team, if you do this you won't even know there is a bug :)

When you leave someone pitching that has no tp,are there pitching skills
getting worse?
Re: commish
I believe he's referring to the practice field. You can leave your pitcher
on the mound continueing to pitch after his TP has been used up. And stars
will continue over his head with positive numbers to his throwing power even
after the TP is done. Does it help or hurt the pitcher?

Deciphering the Scoreboard During
Training?
I'm trying to decipher what the scoreboard REALLY is telling you during
training. 12 Angry Men seems to indicate he uses the scoreboard to direct the
training much more than I have. Please add your comments and disagreements
I watched the scoreboard until it seemed like I wasn't getting any new messages.
Upon further reflection, I think the
comments might reflect when a player is in the extreme ranges of his
performance. If a player is performing in the high range of his talent on
his skill, he is confident about it. If a player is in the low range of
his talent on a skill, he is not confident about it. If there is no
comment, they are performing "in the middle" of their potential.
Comments?? Puzzling... I lost a star after training. Maybe leaving the
training window open too long without activity is harmful?
doo2scooby
Re: Deciphering the Scoreboard During Training?
You are answering your own questions, If it says "is not confident"
shouldn't you give him confidence? and how do you do that ? by training in that
skill ofcourse .The more you train the more confident you get, I'm I right?
Use both the statements written on the scoreboard, and the skills you see on the
scoreboard when stars flash together ,as an indicator on how to train. If you
recieve a 1 for contact , a 6 for power , and a 1 for swing skill, what that
means to me is that that player hits alot of singles and doubles into the
gaps, but needs work on hitting the ball out of the park. I figure the higher the
plus rate the more work the player needs at that skill , my players don't even
recieve contact skills anymore yet they make contact all the time. Atleast this
is my theory ,we each have our own . Good managers, observe and adapt to
the ever changing skill of their player.

Training
This morning when I was training my team all my players suddenly got the
"training stars" floating over their heads even though I hadn't
clicked on them at all. What that did was take all my training away from my
players even though they hadn't been trained. I thought I had seen this once
before but I thought I was just seeing things, but this time I know it happened.
It really blows too because I was going to train my OF in nothing but fielding
this time, because my OF has been costing me games lately, but I didn't get the
chance. Anybody ever see this before?
Jammer JammersBallPlayers 6588
what happened was you were challenged to a game while in training and you had
you passive trainer on and your team trained during that game ,Turn your passive
trainer off when you train and prayer you dont get to many challenges during
training you many still lose Tp. Problem solved.

Re: Pro League Rankings Commish??
For your question, as near as I can determine, the method for sorting the
*current* league standings is:
1) By percentage (aka number of wins)
2) By most recent team to record a win (maybe a loss as well)
So, if your team scores a win and is going to move from 5 wins to 6 wins,
they'll be listed 1st of all the teams that have 6 wins. Until another team gets
6 wins, then they'll be ahead of yours, etc. So basically, don't worry too
much about what the actual *current* standings are, it's what the *final*
standings are going to be that matters. Bea ner's example is what happens
at the end of the season when there's a tie. What happens at the end of a season
goes something like this:
1) Everyone scores a win by forfeit for any unchallenged games remaining.
2) Since all teams now have a full 18 game W/L record, the standings are sorted
by win percentage.
3) In the case of ties by win percentage, the team with the lower ID number wins
the tie.
4) All teams with a 'Zz' are removed from the Pros
5) Teams are promoted/relegated as appropriate (this usually results in more
people being promoted from the Juniors because of holes generated by 'Zz' teams
in the 4th league and is why you sometimes see 'odd' numbers of teams in a given
league as with the 3rd League this season)
So, what you'll wind up with as *final* rankings is a sort by W/L percentage,
then by team number. So when looking at the standings right now, the most
important thing to pay attention to is the number of *LOSSES* a team has because
any team that has no losses, still has the potential to go 18-0 for the season.
Also, don't count out the 'Zz' teams until a few days before the end of the
season as The Chosen 12 were so good to illustrate by playing possum for most of
last season. Hopefully that made sense. Understand that I don't have any
inside info on any of this, I've just pieced this together from what I've seen
and what I've heard from the Commish, but it does make sense to me, so if any of
this seemed wierd, please let me know and I'll try to explain.

General Training Tips
There's a great variety of reasons that you'll have your team fluctuate between a given star rating:
How
do you increase the power / length / time of your TP? My team trains for ten
minutes or so & there all done. Shut down the fielding and pitching as
soon as the training field shows up this will stop all training and give you
time to analyze your strengths and weaknesses. When you figure out who needs
batting work for example: Start by keeping your pitcher on the mound and
put the catcher in the batters box and let the pitcher start. You should be able
to use up the pitchers TP by draining the TP on 2 differnt batters that need
work. Then move another player that needs arm work to the mound. and start the
new batters and so on. This will give training to those who need work in those
areas and you will see a difference in the time it takes you to train your team.
Batters that have finished there work and players you have trained on the mound
will have empty TP so they will not get any fielding training. So turn on the
fielding and click on the names you want to see the most fielding work.
One way to improve there glove is put them in the infield. The closer they are
ie: ss - 2nd base are real close so if they have very poor arms they will be
able to throw to these 2 positions with no problem. The better the arm the
further apart you want them. I try to click on the players names in the
upper right of the trainer instead of clicking on the actual smallballer. They
move around a little fast for that.
Trying to improving only arm strength in a fielding position is very difficult.
They will gain a little of everything if not controlled in the way I discribed.
12Angry Men has coughed up the sercret to faster runners. Drag player only a few
inches and let the run back to their position. Only do this 3 or 4 times if you
do not want to use up all there TP in that skill.

Excellent games both teams can't seem to hold 8 stars yet both teams can hit the
ball. Curious, when the team trains throwing, catching & running, seem to
loose a star, u notice the same thing? train batting or win tight game, gain a
star, but can't seem to keep it. Also notice bats wear out after initiatingmore
than four games in one day, maybe my imaginationi don't know.

Re:
Less is More?
Bang on! Thing is though over work your players and smallball causes your team
to suffer, pretty realistic as it stands right now. Try using one of your bench
warmers in pitching when he has no tp and watch his skills fall below oblivion.
Spruce Grove Chaos (8645)
Re:
training tips
Well what I recommend is different then below. My method takes time and in the
first season you will have mostly loses but you will get better. As soon
as you start trainer turn off all options so your guys are standing around and
doing nothing. That way you can select which skills to train. Then break
it down like this (by training sessions with TP) 1. Full TP to Running
2. Full TP to Catching (click on each of the players and let them catch till tp
is out - make sure to get SS, LF, CF and 3B and 1B first the rest in whatever
order you want) 3 - 6 Batting Only (Make sure catcher bats first (in fact
my catcher has 50+ home runs, sub a substitute player in for catcher or another
player needing catching practice) - During that time the pitcher always pitches
(I gave my pitcher maybe 1/4 of TP for batting on some days, it does not matter
if he strikes out - as long as he strikes others out as well). The rest of
the time I would spend 1/2 on one skill and 1/2 on batting. Skills to
train is running and catching. You should have a descent team at the end.

train them, take a good look at your line -up position them to where they will
best fit. The key is to train , train, & train somemore .*** Hint :
challengeing teams hurts you getting challenged is painless, Think about it.
There is no magical powder and steriod usage involved,No fast way to success be
patient Once again challengeing a few times a day is beneficial , to many
challenges KILLS *** KEEP PASSIVE TRAINING ON ALL TIME when your not
online. The fun in this game is training thats the whole concept so do it,

Commish TP Problem
I have a Team that has empty pies for over 24 hours. They have been challenged
over 20 times during this time frame, I think that might be the problem. Not
fair when I can not Train my Team. That is the fun part for me and I can't do
it.
Warriors 14412
Re: Yes, what he said...
If you have TP and challenge someone your team will train during the game
and use some of your TP. If you have passive training on and are challenged you
will train during the game and use TP. If you don't want to use TP during games
you should train before you play any games and keep passive trainin off. Also,
keep in mind that while you are playing a game your are not accumulating any
additional TP. TP only accumulates while your team is "resting"
however if someone challenges your team there is no penalty.
BTW, I always train before I play any games because 1) it makes my team
better/gives me a better chance to win and 2) I can specifically train all my
players. I only use passive training when I know I'm going to be away from my
computer. I'm not sure about skill loss during games. It's not supposed to
happen but thhere was a bug that hurt quite a few people a week ago. There was a
fix that was uploaded last week that fixed this. To be safe I wouldn't challenge
any more than 2-3 games a day.
Mongol Warriors (4852)
Yeppers
Nice summary, Warriors. Skills will degrade at a constant rate (the
precise rate seems to vary depending on individual player's 'retention' ability
at a given skill), but they don't seem to any longer be degrading faster for
playing a game. The main downfall for playing too many games a day is that
you won't be maximizing your TP gain because you're losing 30 minutes of TP gain
time per game. Don't misunderstand that to mean that you're actually losing TP,
rather your team is not 'resting' as Warrior said, and therefore you've missed
out on time that could have built up TP. To take an extreme case, if you
played constant games for a 12 hour period, you wouldn't actually gain any TP
during that time, exactly as if you had left a training session going, so you
don't want to play yourself right out of your TP gain. I find a good rule
of thumb is to wait until your TP has built up, train it up, and then play *one*
game. That'll naturally limit you to 2 or 3 games a day, you'll only lose a
couple of hours tops of rest time, and will get to both have fun and train up
your team!

Hey anyone A few simple questions about training
O.K. Im a seven star team (thats playing like a six star team) You would think
that I would know the answears to these questions but I dont.
JD - Warden - Death Row Killers
FalconRadio
My Routine
First off, I want to say to Falcon and his 'affiliates' that none of this
material was taken from his leaked discourse. I was discouraged that I wasn't
given access to it, but I let things slide. (Yes, I live in St. Louis,
California) :) I have been doing this for roughly a month, although it doesn't
show since I only have time to train eight times a week.
STEP ONE: Training - 1. Make sure each player runs 1/4 pie EACH TIME. Running
skill is important to get to the bag before the tag. 2. LF, CF, RF, 3B,
and SS should field 1/2 to 1/4 pie. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing a
dropped ball, especially in the pros. 3. Each player should bat their
remaining pies away. Even the pitcher and catcher. Let your pitche throw to the
first two players, then rotate him out for a benchwarmer. You can let the
bencher burn his arm away if you want to, but it's not a good idea if you are
trying to put him in your lineup. Make sure each player recieves ample training
in the 'fields' he needs to play well, but without ignoring what they do worst.
Try to create a routine, so that if you have time to train twice a day, you can
practice all four skills.
STEP TWO: Lineup - Okay, the best runner/catcher goes to LF, the next best
runner/catcher to CF. Then the best remaining thrower/catcher goes to SS, then
the next to 3B. RF needs a good catcher, with average running skill. 2B needs to
catch well, and throw fairly well. 1B gets the next best remaining catcher. and
the 'leftover' can be put at Catcher. He usually does nothing. My best hitters
usually command this position, since they only know how to bat well.
STEP THREE: Rotation - First batter should be the fastest runner out of the
'average' hitters. Find your second batter the same way. The point is to get on
base for the heart of the order. I always put my lefty third (or fourth if he
slugs), the trick being having guys on first and second to create the perfect
gap. Sluggers fill out fourth on, best to worst of the guys that are left.
My pitcher usually bats last, or second to last if his batting ever improved
<sigh>.
STEP FOUR: Playing the game - I really shouldn't have to say this, but don't
play teams 'below' you. Yes, it's a probable win. But in the long run, it
doesn't help much. Play for a competitive win, or loss as it may be.
I really thought most people would catch most of this without having to say it,
and I might or might not be wrong about this. There are a lot of details that I
purposely left out. Not to make people guess, but because it's 4:30 AM. Oh
yeah, one other thing. Only have one team! From experience, it doesn't work.
Atleast not for me, I have little free time. In spite of sounding hypocritical,
I will be giving away my second team after this season, or sooner. No offense to
the 'vultures', but I would rather give my team to one of these guys who became
discouraged at the game. I'll bill them as an average seven star team with
potential, but also a lot of room for improvement. They have stayed alive in the
juniors for two seasons now. Although I will miss dBs, it's better in the long
run if I get rid of them. I am half-expecting to get flamed for this post,
granted all I want to do is to play ball. This shouldn't be knowledge hidden
behind closed doors. I work for the common good, not for personal gain. If this
is recieved somewhat positively, I will post some of my other theories gained
while owning/help training ten-plus teams. Until then, keep it on the
field :)

Interview
with 12 Angry men
NOTE - I am posting this from the SmallBall
site (posted at this url
- http://207.188.30.98/small/community/nnews.shtml) because it has some really good tips. I wish I knew all his
secrets but I'm pretty sure he's good because of his great knowledge of each of
his players capabilities.
12 Angry Men (12a) (http://www.geocities.com/angry12men/12_Angry_Men.html) are by far the most popular team in the SmallBall world. As of this moment this team has 347 games under its belt. That's this season alone! They they won almost everyone of those games. 12a has a W/L .984!!! This team gets a constant stream of challengers. If you want to test the salt of your team, here is your benchmark. But what makes this team so popular? Its because they are VERY good! Why are they so good? We had to ask the owner to find out:
How
often to you train?
I try and train twice a day once in the morning and again before I go to sleep
that's if I wasn't challenged a lot and have some TP left.
Do you use the Passive Training feature?
I sure do, I think its the best thing since sliced bread, I leave it on all the
time except when I'm training. I learned not to leave it on during training the
hard way. One morning when I just started to train all my players TP just
disappeared. Although I got some training in certain areas, which is good, it
screwed up my training cycle for the day. Overall two thumbs up for the passive
training.
What is your technique for working with batting?
Pitching?
I'll start with two questions to all the SmallBall team owners, Is your pitcher
the best player to use during batting practice? If your pitcher has a strong arm
with great pitching skills and throws many strikes (batter swinging strikes) is
your batter benefiting with regard to increased contact kills? Nope!
OK they may be getting good
swing strength but how can you gain contact skills if your not making any, think
of it.
How do you use your extra guys?
I use them to do my dirty work so I don't waste any other players TP.
They pitch to my players in batting practice, TP or no TP. I mean, does it
really matter if they lose skill? No. So use them wisely. I also use them for
training in throwing & catching. What I do is put the player I want to train
in left field and surround him with my bench. EX: player 1 at centerfield,
player 2 at third base, & player 3 at shortstop, this way no other player
uses up TP. Enough said.
What are your techniques for evaluating your players?
Two words "Pay attention". I train every player
Individually. Closely observing if they are swinging and missing; If they are
making good contact in a game; If they beat out a throw to first and if they
make a good catch in the outfield. Another good way is to look at the scoreboard
and calculate the amount of skill gained in a certain skill, and adjust for it.
Also if you are "paying attention" to the scoreboard, it gives you
clues on who needs what. An example: player "x" isn't "confident
in his running" and so on. Bottom line is "PAY ATTENTION".
We see
that you are in the 4th League...do you intend to go all the way? (
at the time of this interview, 12a was in the Jr. league!)
I respect
all those top teams in league 1. When I first started they where killing my team
day after day. Game after game I observed their lineup and adjusted my own, so I
owe some of my success to them. Have a look at the line I have posted on my web
page under the 12 Angry Men logo it reads: "If I have seen far its because
I have stood on the shoulders of giants." To answer your question, If it
happens I will be totally satisfied with my team & myself because I would
know that all the days of training and managing brought me there.
Is there any team that can beat you consistently; are
you afraid of anyone?
Well right now the only team that has beaten 12 Angry Men more then once is
the "Fallen Angels". I have challenged them 4 times and lost all four,
but I used each game as a training tool, switching player positioning and
experimenting. The 12 Angry Men may be beaten today, but we will only come back
tomorrow better and stronger then ever. Show no fear.
Why
did you name your team 12 angry men?
I figured they can't be that happy being that small and having to train
twice a day, and some days play 30 games. Would you? Plus, I liked the movie.
Has anyone figured out who the player's names are? Maybe we should make it a
SmallBall trivia question?
Would you
please say something nice about SmallBall in general?
I enjoy managing and organizing things to make them work as effectively as
possible, and I like sports. SmallBall gives me both. My own team to manage,
arrange and make more competitive than any other team out there. It's up to me.
Most people do not understand the concept of SmallBall. This game is all about
managing your team. The game itself is just the end result. All the fun lies in
player positioning, analyzing their training, and making decisions based on your
findings. The quicker a Team owner finds this out, the quicker their team
becomes competitive. SmallBall Is a great game. I enjoy the competitiveness of
all the Team owners, and interacting with people who share the same love of
managing and organizing. Keep up the excellent work small guys! If you guys see
what I see, this game has no limit to how good it can be.
Push forward!
Cheers.
Tell us your opinion on the top 3 things we need to fix
or add to SmallBall Baseball.
1. One thing I would like to see is a stats page for individual efforts. For
example: top ten homerun hitters, top ten strikeout leaders etc....
2. I don't know if this is easily done, but I would like to see a limit on how
many times a team can challenge another team. Maybe 7 times per season? So if
other Teams want to organize a series amongst themselves, they can do so.
3. Just like everyone else I would like to see the amount of homeruns come down
& scores to be a little more realistic for example: 7 to1 instead of 70 to
10.
But you know what? I like this game so much I don't care if you leave it just
the way it is.
Anything last words you would like to say?
Keep up the good work small guys! I want to let anyone that may have questions

Pitching
Tips

Re:
Great Post 12A !!!
Hay scooby,
You have some good questions there. I have no idea if I have the best man
for the job pitching. Example: 1st trained pitcher left in the pitching
spot for 2 seasons. Discouraged with his efforts I trained the next best
throwing arm. He surpassed my previous pitcher in throwing power and skill in 3
days. I still don't know if there is another player on my team who has
more potential than him since I hated the 3 day training process I had to go
through with the 2nd formentioned pitcher. I am hesitant to try another player
after that fEEasco. Further more I had my best fielder in left field
watching center doing all the work. This caused me to do more adjustments to get
him off the field. To add more problems to this I needed to pull a player
off the bench who was doing so well training it caused more adjustments. SB
advises to make adjustments slowly but I had no idea how i could accomplish
this. Added to that this frickn bug and you have mayhem on the field. Things
have setteled down a bit now but it was a real hair puller for a while. This
right in the middle my first shot in junior league. Whew! The things I put
up with for a computer game:-(

You probably have already been through this excercise, but in case not, here's a
good way to find if there's another good pitcher on your team... At the
end of a season, when you've played all of your important games already, it can
be a good excercise to take 3 or 4 training sessions and let every player on
your team take a turn at pitching for each training session. After you've
pitched with everyone for 3 or 4 sessions, take your top 2 pitching skill guys
(other than your pitcher) and focus on them for another couple of sessions and
see if any of them can wind up with a better skill than your main pitcher. The
other nice side effect of this sort of exercise is that you'll wind up with some
really good throwing on your team as well (not that you really need much help
there!). You'll degrade some of your other skills when you do this, but
it's easy enough to build them back up, so it's a fun and handy thing to do
every couple of seasons.

Re:
Who Pitches BP?
Use your bench to do the dirty work I repeat use your bench to do the dirty work
who cares if they lose skill ,do u get what I mean ? one question why are
your guys running around with no TP? hint: train selectively & watch
as that guy trains pay attention to how he's hitting or throwing or running.
A hint I gave earlier on my web page was: Is a pitcher the best player for
batting practice? Well if you notice and I know this because I pay attention to
my team during training, If you notice that a good pitcher makes your player
taking batting practice swing and miss ( throws strikes). Can a player gain
contact skills when they are missing the ball ? they may but not very many. So,be
creative and the two important words to remember PAY ATTENTION.This game is
about managing its the whole concept of smallball the game is the end result and
if you want to have good results manage your team thats the bottom line brother.

Re:
Batting Tips!!
use
a stats calculator to figure out your on base % and your slugging % then put
your hitters in order 1 and 2 best on base % 3-8 slugging. it only takes a few
minutes and it's well worth the time. all farm league members have access to our
stats calculator. http://www.clix.to/sbc you will also know when your team is in
a slump....

Re:
Great rating, bad hitter
Aside from the fact that the overall rating is made up of contact, power, and
swing skills, does this guy happen to be on the slow side by any chance?
With the new pitching/batting balancing, a really good hitter that happens to be
slow just isn't going to get on base all that often. Also, batters who are on
the edge of homerun potential are going to pop up to the warning track alot more
often. Give him time and run him a little, and I bet he turns around.

Re:
is there a secret??
At 6* having 2 guys that can hit em out is just about right. There is no special
secret to "power of swing" beyond just training and training and some
more good ole fashioned training. Many of us also have the deal with a
supposed strong hitter that really actaully sucks in games. These players
normally have great swing skill and pretty good contact but lack much in the
power stats. These type hitters are best at the very top, first or second or
near the bottom of your lineup. Try training up their speed to make them a great
contact hitting lead off batter. Then let your big bats knock em in.

This
is what he means.
He trained and used all his pie in the training manner I described and on the
scoreboard that rating skills of one of his players went up running 99. ***
note: this uses all your pie up so dont do it every day ,do it every few days
and you will see it.Try it with your pitcher just to see or one of your bench
warmers. fast, quick, short sprints continiously until stars appear and check
out scoreboard. 99 is given to a player who is really bad at running when
they start get better it goes down .EX: 30, 21, 10 8 for the whole pie depending
on players skill.

Re:
Then in other words
NO, guys he is right try it on one of the guys on your bench. Short rapped
sprints , don't stop until the stars appear. The amount of running skills
depends on how slow the player was. So , for full affect try it on a really slow
player ( bench warmer that never gets in game or that you ever train). My, guys
are beyond this and now their full pie will only get them 4-8 skills. :(
[bleep], I'm going to create to many monsters here maybe I should keep my mouth
shut. :)

Sugestions???
Does anyone have a way to focus train for catching? My pitcher avg. 8.5
strikouts per game but can't throw the ball by any of the players on my team
during training, so I can no longer leave someone as catcher in training. My
outfielders are making too many errors, but I have no way to train them. Any
sugestions? Field balls wastes too much (if not all) of their potential on
running and throwing. Any better way?

Re: Sugestions???
I find that putting them in the infield for some catch helps. They make (and
receive) more close throws, using up less TP on running down errant balls &
throwing long-distance. You can even alternate the highlighted player back &
forth, to make them play catch with a nearby infielder.

Re: Sugestions???
I have found that if you only use one ball when using fielding training
that you train your catching skill a lot more than if you use two. If you field
train at shortstop you train your throwing less and catching more since the
throws aren't as long. I usually train catching in left field since I usually
want to train throwing at the same time I train catching. BTW, passive
training is also good for fielding practice but you can't focus train then.

Is the only way to lose skills a fixed amount? And is it equal to the daily
reduction in skills that need to be retrained?
How quickly should a team lose skills (hit/run/catch/pitch/throw)?
Does the max skill stats and rate of skill loss for each player vary over time
or is it unchangable. The reason I ask is sometimes it seems that players
who weren't great at a certain skill all of a sudden get a +8 power or +10
running.
